We are going to try and relying solely on our own meat for our family. this means hunting and growing livestock to sustain our ever growing family. With all that said the first project is to remove all the fencing from in the bush line where we had our dogs and move it to the field to fence for our new source of meat, sheep.
so that sounds easy..............oh dear lord it is not it would be so much easier to go and buy new fence have it delivered set it up along the existing pole and done............but that is not the plan. so it is time to reuse and use things we would normally throw away. so 2 days of crawling through dead fall nasty mosquitoes and bugs flying up our nose in our shirts and up our pant legs. with all the heavy rain we have had the bugs are huge and abundant. the fence has been up or many years now and the fence when laid out was laid along the forest bottom to stop the dogs from digging out and escaping to the boreal. well it has many years of layers of trees twigs plants and debris to pull up as we pull up the fence. it seems like I can pull with everything I have and it will not let loose.
but then it does let loose and too many times to count hit us in the face head arms back legs and when doing so the fresh cut edges left gashes in our flesh. I know I thought about already saying this is stupid and going to town for fence. But reuse right, so back to the bush we go. the fence is farm fence and is about 8 feet tall so we are rolling it up in the bush in tiny open areas of treeless and barren areas. it is so much easier trying to haul the fence out in one big role and try and avoid the constant catching of the trees branches and other things.
we have about half the fence pulled out aand we have moved it over to the horse pasture where we have set up a little corral for the horses sheep lama. we are able to save some money by cutting the fence in half so we have 4 feet tall fence. so far I think with just reusing some of this older fence we be able to get the sheep area up with out spending more than $500.00 for the poles post pounder rental and other things. I will try and make a list of cost later when the project has been completed.
so at the end of this day we have half the fencing done in the sheep pen and have started another project we have to get done this week. but that will be another entry :-) I am going to blog daily or weekly activities instead of projects done or to do. because I am sure here with all we are doing nothing will be ever really done.
the fence for the sheep have to go up now as we have a little bottle fed lamb here that needs to move on to pasture soon and with that come the need to get him a companion and a guardian protector. so we are working as fast as we can to get the fence done for the animals to be picked up.
